I met Dhansingh when I trekked Annapurna circuit Trek and Annapurna Base Camp Trek with a friend and he was our porter/guide. We trekked for 26 days.
He was always vigilant – ensuring that we were coping with the altitude and explaining what the trekking plan was for the next few days.
What we liked was that he didn’t stick to a pre-planned route. As we learned of alternative routes we discussed them and then made the decision on the route we’d take together.
He was also very caring of the villagers and other trekkers we met. Helping a porter over Thorong La when other groups had passed the porter by and not checking on him.
There was no rush to get to the village early, where we were staying that night. We took our time and enjoyed the journey.
So now that I am back in Nepal I contacted Dhansingh asking if he would do the Gurung village trek with me.
This is such an interesting walk as we stayed overnight in homestays, eating and chatting with the families and experiencing Gurung life. We were so welcome. Food was amazing.
Dhansingh is so interested in everyone and everything he is always asking questions and relaying the information to me. At each village, one of the young family members took us for a walk around the village in the morning. A lovely personal touch.
Even on the route he’d stop and chat with the local people and they were obviously loving it.
The trek was beautiful with lots of variance from out in the open…down and up hills via steps…through forested areas, on ridges. Was beautiful.
Seeing how life ticks along for these people was very interesting. People were super friendly.
If you are into enjoying a beautiful trek of 5 to 6 hours a day and learning about the culture of the Gurung then this is the trek for you.
The added advantage of doing this trek with Dhansingh is that he’s a Gurung!!!
Thanks, Dhansingh can’t wait for our next trek.
