Recall back my training last April, attempting Lobuche Peak Climbing 6119m at Khumbu Himal, it was on 3rd of April when I first met Rabin Gurung (Our Guide for the entire trip). Rabin meet and greeted us with a warm traditional welcome where he gave each one of us Marry Gold flowers on our neck. Personally, I feel the warm welcome, am more confident and highly spirited for the training trip.
At first sight, I doubt his capability to be our trekking guide, as he does not have the figure (Physical Figure) like those trekking guide and Sherpas that you see in Everest Movie, but wait until you hit the Himalayan Ranges. There is a saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, although Rabin doesn’t have the expected figure, try to catch him if you can while trekking with him because he is so damn fast! (Apology for the inappropriate word, I just can’t find any other words to describe how fast this guide is.. hahaha). You may think that he is a serious man with no sense of humor but wait until he starts to open his mouth. He is a funny guy with hilarious stories, most of his stories are based on real-life events which make the trip merrier. He is an honest and highly responsible guide. When I got altitude sickness at 4920m and had to descend, he does not stop contacting his assistant guide Sukbahadur to monitor my conditions. After the trekking trip at Khumbu Himal, we went to Rabin’s remote village somewhere in Dhading area. When we arrived at his humble house, he makes sure that we experience the pure way of Gurung lifestyle, while another guide might do otherwise (Which is trying to provide a facility that they don’t have just to make sure we felt convenient). If any of you thinking of doing Himalaya trek or visiting Nepal, I highly recommend you to get Rabin Gurung as your guide as he is a guide who serves you and treat you like a friend, not as a customer.
